Flying high...lifting spirits...

On Sunday 30th August Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary received a special thank you in the form of a flypast by this amazing Spitfire. The special Spitfire took off from Duxford Airfield in Cambridgeshire and flew over hospitals in Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire and Manchester.  It was captured on camera by our own Divisional Director of Surgery, Will Ainslie (see second image).

As well as thanking NHS staff the aim of the flypast was to lift the spirits of people who have been isolated during the pandemic. It’s very special as it’s covered with handwritten names of NHS workers who have lifted the spirits these past few months and has room for 80,000 names. Anyone can apply to add a name - it costs £10 per name and all the funds raised go to NHS Charities, with over £90,000 being raised so far.
