Meet the Governor - John Richardson

We currently have 25 governors on our Council of Governors, with a range of backgrounds.  We have public, staff and stakeholder governors, eg from the University of Huddersfield and our local Healthwatch.

Together they hold the Board to account for its performance and they are able to do this in a number of ways including through Divisional Reference  Group meetings (see story) and Familiarisation Tours around the Trust's departments.

Here we profile just one of them. He's John Richardson, a publicly elected governor.  He was elected in 2017.

I am John Richardson a publicly elected governor covering Dalton, Almondbury, Kirkburton & Denby Dale. I have lived in two of those areas and currently reside in a third, being a resident of Almondbury for 32 years. I am married to an Almondbury lass, a marriage of thirty five years, which has produced three grown up sons and three grandsons with a granddaughter on the way. I was born and bred in Huddersfield sixty years ago and enjoy living in this wonderful town.

What have you enjoyed most about being a Governor?

Been a governor for almost twelve months and loving every minute. It has been a chance to meet some wonderful, hard working and dedicated people some of whom work behind the scenes to ensure the trust moves forward. One item that stands out has to be the Celebrating Success evening (the Trust's staff awards ceremony) - so many inspirational people and everyone a winner.

Has anything been interesting or surprising about the role?

I have found the whole experience interesting so far and feel I have learned a lot about the trust and how it works.

Have there been any funny moments?

Nothing springs to mind as being funny, although the experience of being on the roof at Calderdale was fascinating - I could have stayed there all day...!

How do you relax?

Nothing better than a night in watching a film, I am a big film buff especially James Bond.

What is your favourite place?

Has to be Whitby.

Who would you most like to have dinner with?

My parents just one more time, so they could see my family grown up.

What is your most treasured possession?

Has to be my family.
