We are currently awaiting some key decisions on the reconfiguration journey to reshape the way we provide our hospital and community care.
In May we received a copy of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel’s (IRP) report to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and his letter of response.
The IRP was of the view that further action is required before a final decision is made about the future arrangements for hospital and community health services in our area.
The Secretary of State has asked for more information in the key areas of out-of-hospital care, the availability of capital funding and hospital capacity and work to provide that is underway. He has given the local NHS, NHS Improvement and NHS England three months to report back.
The report acknowledges that no change is not an option and that change is needed to services to protect their safety and quality. A full copy of the report will be available on the IRP website https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/independent-reconfiguration-panel
As a result of that a Judicial Review hearing has been postponed until later this year.
The proposals would create two specialist hospital centres - one for planned care at the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary site and one for emergency care at Calderdale Royal Hospital. This would have a specialist paediatric emergency centre for the the first time. Both would have Urgent Care Centres.
