A special shout-out to the Care of Patient at Home team who have been caring for a very poorly man in his 20s round-the-clock at home in Halifax.
Lucy Clarke, left, Tina Bellwood, centre, Sharon Horsley, right, and bank nurse Cath Smith have shared a rota covering days, evenings and nights to care for the 27-year-old who has a complicated congenital condition which requires assistance with breathing, eating, suctioning, medication and changing tubes.
Their team effort, always in full PPE, has resulted in their patient receiving personalised specialist care which has meant that he has avoided the need to come into hospital during the pandemic - something which could have been risky for him as he has so many underlying conditions. They have sacrificed their own time and needs to ensure that the risk of him catching the virus has been reduced.
The team’s clinical manager Sally Akesson, said: “This is flexible care at its very, very best. They’ve done so much for our patient and his family. If he had had to come into hospital they would have felt they had let him down. That is how much they care. They are my team of unsung heroes!”
