Reconfiguration: finance approved and next steps

In December 2018 the Department of Health gave its approval for £198m of funding in support of proposals to reconfigure the healthcare services we provide in our hospitals and in community.

It was the latest development in the proposals which were unveiled back in 2016 with the aim of ensuring our Trust is able to continue to provide sustainable health services into the future locally for our populations in Huddersfield and Calderdale. They were backed by our partners, our two local Clinical Commissioning Groups  (CCGs) in Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield.

At the core of the proposals were plans to create an emergency care centre with a new specialist paediatric emergency care centre at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) becoming the site for all planned care and surgery.

Following public consultation the plans were reviewed and they now include a 24/7 A&E at HRI. All blue-light ambulances will go to CRH and both hospitals will have urgent care centres. HRI will also be the planned care centre.

The award of funding is another step along the way and we look forward to working with our stakeholders and communities on the future developments.
