It is my great pleasure to be writing my first welcome to CHFT’s Foundation News. I was very proud to have been appointed Chair at this Trust in April succeeding Andrew Haigh and I thank him for all his friendship and support in my early days.
CQC rating announced and we've improved to GOOD
We're hoping for a truly fab day to celebrate the NHS's 70th anniversary. Anuerin Bevan founded our fab organisation on July 5 1948 bringing together so many different healthcare providers under the same banner.
July 5 - the NHS's 70th Birthday - and we're having a tea Party
June 20 2018 was a very big day for the Trust. The CQC announced its findings following an intensive inspection back in April and came back with the rating of GOOD. Just two years ago, that rating had been "requires improvement" so to receive the upgrade was very special to us all.
Well done Children's Services - first to be accredited in the country
Earlier this year Children's Services received some fab news. After much, much hard work - and a little boost from our younger patients - the team have secured the first Service Accreditation in the country and been hailed as "exemplary".
Fraudster jailed and our Trust creates NHS legal history
This man was DJ-ing at the same time as he was trying to fraudulently claim more than £800K from CHFT saying he had been left unfit for work after treatment. The video was part of the evidence against him and on 1st June he was jailed for three months and ordered to pay £75K in costs.
Laryngectomy Group - one of many offering extra support
We have recently set up a new group for laryngectomy patients providing holistic support. It brings patients and our staff together to share experiences and support each other. Here's more about it.
Ophthalmology training event puts CHFT "on the map".
After 18 months of planning, more than 300 patients were seen by around 80 trainee Ophthalmologists from across the world as CHFT hosted the April part 2 Fellowship in Ophthalmology by examination (FRCOphth). The Royal College of Ophthalmologists asked our consultant Rehna Khan if we would host the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE).
Year of EPR complete
Our staff nurses Emily Pawson and Sophie Whiteley on Ward 19 are pictured here with the very latest techonolgy patient information storage equipment. It's an Electronic Patient Record trolley - they were introduced in a huge digital switchover process which started in May 2017 and continues to this day.
Reconfiguration latest
We are currently awaiting some key decisions on the reconfiguration journey to reshape the way we provide our hospital and community care. In May we received a copy of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel’s (IRP) report to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and his letter of response.
Governors Updates
Winter weather thank you
After what was dubbed the worst winter on record for the NHS our staff still managed to produce an overall stunning performance for care. Throughout it all in the key areas of patient care we were continually in the top 10% of Trusts in the country.
Meet the Governor - John Richardson
We currently have 25 governors on our Council of Governors, with a range of backgrounds. We have public, staff and stakeholder governors, eg from the University of Huddersfield and our local Healthwatch.
Out and about around the Trust with the Governors.
Our Divisional Reference Group meetings are where we bring our governors face to face with our senior team leaders, both clinical and managerial, giving the governors the chance to ask questions about the Trust's performance. They start around a meeting table then move on to a tour to meet CHFT staff and find out more about the services and care we provide.
Happy 70th to the NHS - from our lead governor Brian Moore
Our lead governor Brian Moore has joined our celebrating the NHS 70th birthday campaign. Every week throughout this landmark year we have featured a different member of staff and role to highlight the diversity and inclusion about working life at our Trust. Brian Moore featured in April and here's his thoughts in this momentous year.

Volunteers....thanks to them all
Every single one of our volunteers. We couldn't provide the care we do without all their support. They're there with a smile in our entrances every day of the year supporting our patients and their families. Our volunteers will also be crucial in our NHS celebrations.
Fundraisers beat 'Snowmaggedon' for Children's Diabetes Team weekend away
Our Trust is always grateful when we receive donations from our patients and their families. Recently our paediatric diabetes team were overwhelmed when patient Callum Long, 10, and his family presented them with a cheque for more than £6,200. The money means their residential weekend away can take place again next year.
